Varanus gilleni are treeclimbers, and thus have prehensile tails. They grow to around 35 cm in total length, 10 cm of which is tail. The back is brown, and turning into gray at the sides. The nostril is slightingly positioned to one side.[2] They weigh on average 60–80 g.[3]
