IntroductionEdit

Leopard Geckos (Eublepharis macularius) are probably the most popular gecko species in the pet trade. This is because they are very easy to care for and thrive in almost any setup as long as their basic needs are met. They come in an amazing variety of colours and patterns.

Leopard Geckos orginate from Afghanistan, Pakistan, parts of Iran and India. They live in hot, rocky and arid conditions.

HousingEdit

Hatchling and sub-adults should be housed in small and simple enclosures. A 20"x12"x12" will be suitable for upto 3 geckos. Keep the enclosure simple, kitchen towel or newspaper or the best substrate as they it is easy to clean. A hide and a moist hide for each gecko, a water bowl and fod dish.

Adults should be housed in a minimum of a 24"x12"x12" vivarium

Heating and lightingEdit

Heating your enclosure is best done with a heatmat placed under one end of the enclosure, The temperature of the warm end should be kept at 84-88 degrees Fahrenheit. Remember that all heating equipment should be controlled by an apropriate thermostat

As Leopard Geckos are nocturnal they don't require UV light for calcium absorption. However one can be used to create a day/night cycle and to keep live plants healthy. Your gecko should have a 12 hour day/night cycle.

DietEdit

Leopard Geckos are carnivorous, feeding on live food. You should provide your gecko with a varied diet.

Some good foods are crickets, locusts and mealworms, Foods should be gut-loaded. Oats wheat, vegatables and fruits are all good gut-loaders.

Live foods also need to be dusted with a calcium and a multi-vitamin powder, calcium should be used on 5 days and multi-vitamins 1 day a week
